The Blackwood Football Club suffered a 25-point defeat to the Hahndorf Magpies in Round 16 of the Police Credit Union Hills Football League at Hahndorf Oval.

Entering the match with four changes, the Woods made a fast start booting the opening goal of the match courtesy of star forward Jack Lewis. Kicking up the slope in the first quarter, the Woods battle hard controlling the ball for periods of the term. The Mapgies were able to make the most of their entries booting two goals through Luke Roberts and Henry Pedlar to take an 11-point lead into the first break.

Like the opening quarter, Blackwood kicked the first goal of the second quarter through Jack Lewis. With the ground turning very muddy under foot, midfield ball ups were becoming a regular occurrence in the match. Small forward Cooper Hough got on the scoreboard swopping on an errant handball from Woods defender Caleb Dearman in the goal square. Both sides then went goal for goal with Ben Wender capturing a free kick holding the ball at the top of the square. A late goal to Henry Pedlar, his second of the match saw the Mapgies take a 12-point lead into the major break.

With a large crowd in attendance, the Woods came out of the rooms confident they had what it took to defeat the Magpies for a second time in the year. Locking the match down intent on not letting them extend their margin, the Woods threw plenty of numbers around the ball. Hahndorf were able to lock the ball inside their forward half for much of the quarter. Cooper Hough was able to boot his second of the match in the seventh minute much to the delight of team-mates whose focus was on kicking the first goal of the quarter. A further goal to Brayden Hopgood in the back end of the quarter saw the Magpies take a four-goal lead into the final break.

Blackwood came out with strong intent at the start of the last quarter still believing they could pull themselves back into the game. Cooper Nykamp was able to hit the scoreboard in the fifth minute converting a set shot from the clubroom pocket after finding space on a Magpies attacking entry. Blackwood continued to push hard kicking the next two goals of the game through Jack Lewis and Rhys Sporn. The Magpies were able to hold strong and kick one final goal through Hough to seal a 25-point victory at the final siren.

Inside midfielder Ben Adams was name best player for the Woods for his numerous clearances and tackles while Nathan Dunn, Eduard Van den berg, Sam Zevenboom, Ryan McMurtrie, Troy Hocking caught the eye of the coaching start featuring in the better players.
