Volunteer Focus

The Blackwood Football Club would not be the club it is today, without the valuable contribution of the many who volunteer to do the tasks required. This Volunteer Focus post is for Michael Richardson!
We asked Michael a few questions so we could learn a little more about his involvement at the Club.

BFC: Tell us how you first got involved with the Blackwood Football Club?
MR: I first got involved back in 1988 as an U17s player, I played at BFC until 1997, moving to Mitcham footy club. Whilst still playing at Mitcham in 2011 I joined the sub junior footy committee at Blackwood as my son, Ethan, was starting U8s.

BFC: Did you play for the club and what were the best and not-so-best experiences in the games?
MR: I did play for the club from 1988-1996, Mitcham 1997-2007, Blackwood 2008-2010, Mitcham 2011-2014, Blackwood 2022 – 1 game. The best experience I had was winning a premiership in 1991 in our Div2 A2 team.

BFC: We see you around quite a bit and noticed your name on the Honour Boards – what are you doing now at the club?
MR: Currently I am doing the BBQ coordination and basically anywhere I can help out.

BFC: Many of us have nicknames – what’s yours?
MR: Depending on the era, my older friends call me Ricco, my younger friends call me Richo but right now I am Little Ricco, for obvious reasons and we have a Big Ricco, even my son is taller now!!

BFC: What do you love about our club?
MR: I love the community feel. I love the passion from our volunteers and supporters. What I most love, is the friends you make over the journey. From the friends I made in 1988 to the new friends you meet in 2023.

BFC: Why do you volunteer at the Blackwood Football Club?
MR: I want to help our club become the best football club in Australia for both players, members, supporters and visitors. I love watching the kids play on Friday nights and Sundays. I love watching the boys and women/girls develop their footy before your very eyes. I love meeting the new parents and volunteers to the club.

BFC: That’s great Little Ricco ! Good to hear about your involvement and the things you do. Thanks for your service and love you have for the Club and all the best for the years to come.
