The Blackwood Football Club has a new Moulden Medallist. Nathan Dunn has become the 20th Moulden Medallist after taking out the count by eight votes at last Saturday’s presentations.

Polling in 11 of 16 matches across the season, Dunn raced out of the blocks polling 24 of a possible 30 votes in the opening two matches against Hahndorf and Mt Barker. Continuing his strong start to the season he polled best-a-field performances in Round 5 against Uraidla Districts, Round 6 against Onkaparinga Valley and Round 9 against Bridgewater-Callington to lead by nine points over team-mate and 2020 HFL Mail-Medallist Matt Tuck.

The count tightened in the second half of the season with midfielder Daniel Benson worked his way into form picking up best a field performances in Rounds 12 against Nairne Bremer, Round 17 against Echunga and Round 18 against Bridgewater-Callington to make it a close count with Dunn finishing on 127 votes, eight ahead of Benson with 119 votes.

Finishing third place was youngster Oscar Hodge (77 votes), 2020 Mail Medallist Matt Tuck finished in fourth with 71 votes with ruck Jan Warbout rounded out the top five polling 71 votes.

Upon accepting the award, Dunn said it was such an honour to win the Moulden Medal. “I am super honoured to accept this award. There have been some great players to have won this medal across many years, I can’t believe I am now one of them.”

In the Open Women’s, Tamika May claimed her first Women’s Best & Fairest award polling 130 votes ahead of 2020 Medal winner Michaela Collins with 97 votes. May claimed the award polling in 12 of 14 matches including being adjudged best player in Round 2, Round 6, Round 7, Round 9, Round 11 and Round 14. Kelly Whitehead finished in third place with 86 votes whilst Harsimart Dhaliwal (77 votes) and Tyler Attiwill (36 votes)rounded out the top five place getters.

In the Men’s B Grade Liam McCarthy received the best and fairest award polling 76 votes to finish 18 ahead of Bailey Badcoe in second place whilst Kiera Mueller claimed the B Grade Women’s Medal in a run away victory over Claudia Cock in second place. In the return of the C Grade Men’s side, Nathan Laity claimed his first best-and-fairest award after returning to the football field of the first time since Under 14’s finishing on 96 votes, 11 ahead of runner-up Connor McCarl.
