The Blackwood Football Club Open Women’s side has record its second victory of Season 2021 defeating the Salisbury Magpies by four points on Saturday afternoon at Blackwood Oval.
Speaking post match coach Darren Cock said it was a great victory for the side. “It was a fairly scrappy game to watch today but the girls gave it their all and came out with the victory which was pleasing to see.”
In the first home match of the season, the Woods side got jumped by the Magpies in the first term trailing by seven points at the first break. After resetting at the break with words of advise from the coaching group, the side game out and broke open the match kicking four goals to one for the term. Locking down the game in the second half, the Woods managed to hold on in the last quarter to record their second victory of the season.
Brie Medder continued her outstanding form in front of goal kicking three majors whilst Jamie Lunn (2 goals) and Caitlyn Hill (1 goal) also hit the scoreboard. On her return from West Adelaide Tamika May was awarded as best player with Medder, Bridie Stouppos, Michaela Collins and Kelly Whitehead also rewarded for their efforts also featuring in the better players.
Next weekend sees the Woods face Old Ignations Football Club at Park 25 on Saturday afternoon whilst the HFL side faces Mt Barker from 1.30pm on Sunday afternoon.
