The Saturday sees the Blackwood Football Club Senior, Junior and Mini Colts play off for a spot in the 2022 Police Credit Union Hills Football League Grand Final.

The day sees the teams travel to Uraidla Oval looking to secure victory’s and a weeks rest for the scheduled Grand Finals at Nairne Oval on Saturday 17 September

Under 18 Boys

This match sees the Daryl Sowerby coached Senior Colts face off against the Mt Barker Football Club for a spot in the big dance.

In a mouth-watering clash, the match is poised to be a close battle with the total margin from the two games being 19 points. In Round 8 at Summit Park, Blackwood held off a fast finishing Barkeroos side to secure a 10 point victory. Competition leading goal kicker Nick Evans proved to the be the difference up forward booting four of six majors for the Woods while Alex Markham was named best player with his defensive work across the half back line.

In heavy conditions for the return fixture at KX Pilates Blackwood Oval in Round 17, inaccurate kicking cost the Woods kicking 2 goals from 13 scoring shots at the Barkeroos recorded a nine point victory to take home the 2022 Courier Cup. Michael Thompson was the only goal scorer for the Woods kicking two majors while ruck Aaron Ramsey was named best player.

Across the season, both sides rank in the top two for attack and defence in the competition. From the 16 minor round matches, the Woods averaged 74.2 point in attack kicking 166 goals from 357 shots on goal (46.5 percent) compared to the Barkeroos who average 69.1 points per match kicking 153 goals from 281 shots on goal (54.4 percent)

Under 16 Boys

On Saturday, our Junior Colts face the Onkaparinga Valley Bulldogs in the second semi-final. Finishing in first and second positions on the ladder at the end of the season, the match is poised to be a highly contested match up.

From the two matches between the sides in 2022, Blackwood have walked away victorious on both occasions. In Round 5, a five goal to one first half set up the match as the side eventually ran out 25 point winners at the final siren. On the day, competition leading goal kicker Lachlan Sorrella booted six goals whilst Fraser Grigg was named best player. In the reverse game in Round 14, Blackwood kicked at accurate 9 goals one behind to secure a 20 point victory at the final siren. Sorrella was once again in the goal kickers booting three majors and was named best player.

Under 14 Boys

After a weekend off courtesy of finishing top of the ladder, our mini colts enter the 2022 second semi-final against the Hahndorf Football Club with the winner progressing straight through to the big dance.

At the end of the minor round, Blackwood finished top of the ladder winning 17 of 18 matches being ranked as number one attack and defence in the competition with a percentage of 944.64%. In the first match between the sides in 2022, Blackwood was overrun in the last quarter leading by nine points at the final break to eventually suffer a three point defeat at the final siren. Star forward Mitch Daniell booted four majors while Harry Mueller was named best player for the game.

In the return match in Round 16, Blackwood got one back on the Magpies booting six goals to run out 28 point winners at Hahndorf Oval. Five players booted goals for the match with Jack Lyndon the multiple goal scorer with Lachlan Martin, Jack Lyndon, Jack Mrozowski, Brodie Bowen, Cameron Wildy featuring in the better players.

Across the season, Blackwood had a remarkable record registering 236 goals from 407 scoring shots (58.0 percent) whilst only conceding 24 goals from 48 scoring shots for the season. The only match they have allowed double figures in the shots against column was the loss to Magpies in Round 7.
