The Blackwood Football Club had mixed results for its three second semi-final clashes at Saturday morning at Uraidla Oval.

Mini Colts

In the first match of the day, the Mini Colts faced the Hahndorf Magpies, a side which they recorded their only loss of the season to date. In trying conditions with mist and a strong breeze, it was a close battle. It took until the third quarter for the Woods to kick into gear booting three goals for the term to turn a 13-point deficit into a seven-point lead. In a difficult final quarter, both sides ended up on 21 points at the final siren.

Playing extra time (five minutes either way) unfortunately the Woods were only able to register a behind to 1 goal 3 behinds to the Mapgies as they booked their place in the big dance in two weeks’ time. Fortunately for the Woods, they have a second chance next weekend playing at Heathfield Oval from 8.30am.

Mitch Daniell, Will Mackie and Lachlan Scott were the goal kickers for the Woods with Joshua Bell, Jackson Muller, Brodie Bowen, Jack Mrozowski, Cameron Wildy named the best players.

Junior Colts

In the junior colts, the top of the table Woods entered the match having had a weekend’s rest. Much like the Mini Colts, the side came out slow . Beaten in the clearances by the Bulldogs, the Woods were behind the eight ball with the defence under continual pressure. At the final siren, the Woods suffered a 31-point loss moving to next weekend’s second chance Preliminary Final.

Senior Colts

IN the final match of the day for Blackwood, the Senior Colts booted their place in the big dance in a dominate 35-point win over the Mt Barker Football Club. Entering the match with two changes, the side made a fast start booting two opening quarter majors from six shots. With the midfield on top through the likes of Callum Finlayson, Luke Lewis and Caleb McCormick the Woods were able to control the field position for much of the match. Continuing to push hard the side booted five goals to two in the final three quarters to secure a place in the 2022 Grand Final.
