Blackwood will unveil eight debutants for their clash against Lobethal on Saturday afternoon at KX Pilates Blackwood Oval

The Woods, who have had a productive off season will be looking to kick off the season in the best possible way with a victory over the Tigers this weekend.

Blackwood will unveil star off-season signings Ben Adams and Jack Lewis. Widely regarded as two of the best young players in the Adelaide Football League competition in 2021, Lewis who is a member of the Adelaide Crows SANFL squad will add some flair, athletic ability and booming left foot kick whilst Adams will add some midfield prowess with his ability on the inside.

The Woods will also unveil Kai Tucker who joins the Woods from the Sturt Football Club while adding some exciting 2021 Senior Colt graduates Charlie Aitken, Sam Matters and Bailey Pedro.

In two good news stories, mobile-tall Nathan Laity will step up into the A Grade ranks for the first time having joined the Woods last season playing in the club’s C Grade side where he took home the best and fairest award. While heart-and-soul of the Woods Henry Spurr has been named to make his A Grade debut having toiled away in the B and C Grade for 120 games.

Senior Coach Scott Prebble said it was an exciting time to be at the Blackwood Football Club and can’t wait for the siren to sound on Saturday afternoon. “The entire playing group has put in a mountain of work across the pre season and it’s great for the real action to start.”

“No doubt Covid has made thing a bit difficult at times across the pre season but the boys have pushed through and are raring to represent the red and green with pride, passion and determination.”

“It is great to see so many new faces who all add something to the side. I can’t wait to show what we can do to our loyal members and supporters on the Saturday afternoon.”

For the reserves, Daniel Lowe has named Cameron Bahnisch, Callum Finlayson, Luke Lewis, James Wallace and Ben Wender to make their senior debuts of the club. For Finlayson and Lewis, they are current members of the Senior Colts cohort.

In the 18s, new coach Daryl Sowerby has named a squad of 22 players for the clash against the Tigers. Luke Lewis will lead the side being named as Captain whilst Paul Brown and Caleb McCormick will support as Vice Captains. In the Junior Colts, they have named a squad of 21 players whilst the Mini Colts have named 24.
