The Blackwood Football Club SANFL girls teams started their 2018 campaigns last weekend, recording two wins and two losses, whilst the Under 18s team had another encounter in Round Four against the Goodwood Saints.
Under 12s
The Under 12s teams, coached by Allan Hough and Jane McCarthy, lost to bigger and taller opposition in their first game. The Under 12s have only three girls that have played before, and showed improvement the longer the game went on. The girls had a ball, and are looking forward to next weeks game away to West lakes and Glenunga.

Under 14s
The Under 14s had a great win against a tough opposition, Glenunga, in a grand final rematch. Turning in on the the premiership quarter, kicking three goals to none, the Woods ended up winning the rematch by four goals, the side play some outstanding football during the match. Lily Whitcombe was named best on ground for her performance.

Under 16s
The Under 16 girls faced Glenunga in another tough match. Dominating the first half, the girls lead by six goals at half time to eventually win the match by 39 points. Willow Hommersham, Brie Medder and Zoe Venning kicked two goals each whilst Under 16s State Academy player Kiera Mueller was named best-on-ground.

Under 18s
The Under 18 have had a tough start to the season being ravaged by injury with two ACL ruptures, and two ankle sprains in the last month. In Round 4 they faced the Goodwood Saints at U-Install-It Kitchens Oval. A formidable opponent, the Saints were too strong for the Woods running out eleven goals winners.
Speaking after the match, coach Luke Gunn was very happy with their second half effort, after a poor first half. Victoria Ward was named best player for the Woods in her last game before surgery for a ruptured thumb tendon, an injury that she has been playing with since the preseason.
