Its Grand Final time!

This Saturday sees our Mini, Junior and Senior Colts play off for the ultimate prize, the 2022 premiership.

In three highly anticipated matches, the Woods travel up the freeway to Nairne looking to bring three flags back to KX Pilates Blackwood Oval.

Following all matches, the club will be open from 2.00pm with a free BBQ provided from 3.30pm.

Mini Colts

In the first match up of the day, the Mini Colts play off in the Mini Colts Grand Final for the eight time since 2010 with the last victory occurring back in 2016.

In the 2022 fixture, the Woods line up against the Hahndorf Magpies in a repeat of the second semi final two weeks ago. Having qualified for the Grand Final with 10 point victory over the Barkeroos in the Preliminary Final the Woods head into the match confident.

From the three matches played between the sides in 2022, the record is one win to the Woods and two wins to the Magpies way. In the first match between the sides in 2022, Blackwood was overrun in the last quarter leading by nine points at the final break to eventually suffer a three point defeat at the final siren. Star forward Mitch Daniell booted four majors while Harry Mueller was named best player for the game.

In the return match in Round 16, Blackwood got one back on the Magpies booting six goals to run out 28 point winners at Hahndorf Oval. Five players booted goals for the match with Jack Lyndon the multiple goal scorer with Lachlan Martin, Jack Lyndon, Jack Mrozowski, Brodie Bowen, Cameron Wildy featuring in the better players.

In the third match in trying conditions with mist and a strong breeze at Uraidla Oval, it was a close battle. It took until the third quarter for the Woods to kick into gear booting three goals for the term to turn a 13-point deficit into a seven-point lead. In a difficult final quarter, both sides ended up on 21 points at the final siren. Playing extra time (five minutes either way) unfortunately the Woods were only able to register a behind to 1 goal 3 behinds to the Mapgies as they booked their place in the big dance.

Key Fact One: The Woods will look to open the game up having been held on average to 30.3 points for by the Magpies compared to 90.82 in all other matches.

Key Fact Two: The team which has finished top of the ladder at the end of the minor rounds has won the premiership in seven of 12 Mini Colt Division One Grand Finals since 2010 (58 percent).

Junior Colts

In the second Grand Final of the day, our Junior Colts face the Onkaparinga Valley Bulldogs. Finishing in first and second positions on the ladder at the end of the season, the match is poised to be a highly contested match up.

Coach Jack Smedley and his assistants will be looking to get the Woods on top from the stoppage and drive the ball forward to competition leading goal kicker Lachlan Sorrella.

From the three matches between the sides in 2022, Blackwood have walked away victorious on two occasions whilst Onkaparinga Valley have won once. In Round 5, a five goal to one first half set up the match as the side eventually ran out 25 point winners at the final siren. On the day, competition leading goal kicker Lachlan Sorrella booted six goals whilst Fraser Grigg was named best player.

In the reverse game in Round 14, Blackwood kicked at accurate 9 goals one behind to secure a 20 point victory at the final siren. Sorrella was once again in the goal kickers booting three majors and was named best player. In the most recent match up in the second semi-final, Blackwood suffered a 31 point defeat booting only two goals for the match.

Key fact One: From the 12 Junior Colt Grand Finals since 2010, the winner has finished in the top two positions on the ladder 11 times. The only time the winner has come from outside the top two is 2012 when Hahndorf finished in third position.

Key Fact Two: The team which has 15 scoring shots will be the winner. Across the last 12 Junior Colt Grand Finals the winner of the match has averaged 15 shots on goal. There has only been one occasion where a team has had 15 shots on goal and lost the match (Blackwood in 2015).

Senior Colts

This match sees the Daryl Sowerby coached Senior Colts face off against the Mt Lofty Football Club for the 2022 Grand Final

In the three matches between the sides in 2022, the Woods have secured three victory including a 32 point margin in Round 2, a 33 point margin in Round 11 and a 73 victory in the most recent outing during the Qualifying Final. From the 30 matches between the sides in the Senior Colts competition dating back to the start of the 2010 season, Blackwood have won on 25 occasions (83.3 percent).

This years Grand Final will the ninth time in 13 seasons which Blackwood has played off for the ultimate prize (2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2021) and the third time in four years which they have played the Devils. In the two matches ups in 2019 and 2020, Mt Lofty walked away winners by 11 and 28 points.

Key Fact One: Kick 43 or more points. The average runner up score across Senior Colt grand finals since 2010 is 42.7 points.

Key Fact Two: Four of the last five winners of the the Senior Colts premiers have progressed through the Preliminary Final.
