The Blackwood Football Club finished the season off in style winning three premierships in the Mini, Junior and Senior Colts.

In tough conditions at Nairne Oval with a strong breeze blowing straight down the ground, the Woods came out in all matches putting their best foot forward from the outset in all matches to come away with the victory.

Mini Colts

In the first match of the day, the Mini Colts faced the Hahndorf Magpies, a side which they recorded their only losses of the season to date.

In a low scoring first half, the Woods lead by one solitary point at the first break. Kicking with the breeze in the third quarter, the young Woods stepped on the accelerator moving the ball long and direct. Unable to hold the tide back, Blackwood kicked seven goals for the quarter to all but secure the victory. Able to enjoy the last quarter, the Woods locked the match down and were able to celebrate a 38 point victory at the final siren.

Mitch Daniell was the star player in the match booting three goals to be named best on ground with Cohen Andrews, Josh Bell, Jackson Muller, Lachlan Scott and Cameron Wildy all kicking one goal season. Along with Daniell, Jack Lyndon, Joshua Bell, Cameron Wildy, Brodie Bowen also featured in the better players.

Junior Colts

The Junior Colts entered the Grand Final with a strong desire to turn around the result from two weeks when the side suffered a defeat in the second semi-final.

Kicking against the breeze in the first quarter, the Woods battled hard to keep the quarter a low scoring one. When the siren sounded, Blackwood trailed by 12 points but were confident having had the ball in their forward half for much of the term. Under instruction from coach Smedley, the team moved the ball long and direct in the second quarter. Kicking three goals to none for the quarter Blackwood was able to turn the deficit into a nine point lead.

Hocking strong in the third quarter, the young Woods managed to keep the Bulldogs to only one goal with the scored locked at 21-all at the final break. In a tight and tough quarter, Blackwood was able to extend the margin through competition leading goal kicker Lachlan Sorella who booted his 62nd and most important goal for the season. When the final siren sounded, Blackwood secured the victory by seven points and recorded the first Junior Colts premiership since 2018.

Senior Colts

In the final match of the day, Blackwood entered their fourth Senior Colt Grand final on the trot and were looking to go back-to-back. Facing an inform Devils side, the Woods knew they had to start well. Captain Luke Lewis won the toss and rightly chose to kick with the strong breeze in the first term. Making a fast start, the Woods were able to kicking two majors and register seven scoring shots taking a 10 point lead in at the first break.

With the likes of Lewis, Callum Finlayson and Caleb McCormick getting first hand on the ball through the excellent ruck work from Aaron Ramsey, Blackwood was able to qwell the Devils for much of the second quarter. Despite going against the breeze, Blackwood was able to outscore the Devils for the term and take a 15 point lead in at the main break.

In a second half which was impacted by the conditions, Blackwood was able to maintain its lead and hold on in the final quarter as the Devils gave one last effort as the side recorded a 13 point win at the final siren. The victory was the fifth Senior Colt premiership for the Woods since 2010.

Son of a gun Caleb McCormick was named best player for the Woods with ruck Aaron Ramsey, key defender Tyson Kershaw, hard nut Callum Finlayson and speedy defender Alex Markham named best players.
