Round 8 Guide

We’re on the road again, this time travelling to Summit Park to play the Mt Barker Football Club in Round 8 of the Police Credit Union Hills Football League.

The fixture marks a special occasion with the celebration of Indigenous culture with an Indigenous Round celebration taking place including a Welcome to Country performance and Smoking Ceremony before the bounce of the A Grade Men’s match.

The Woods will take the field at Summit Park (the new home of the Barkeroos) for the very first time with the ground having opened in 2021. The venue has wide expanses measuring approximately 162 metres long and 133 metres wide (KX Pilates Blackwood Oval is 152 metres by 122 metres).

Since the beginning of 2006, Blackwood and Mt Barker have played 35 times, with the Woods coming away with the victory on 21 occasions (60 percent), Mt Barker winning on 13 occasions and one draw. In the matches, Blackwood has kicked 407 goals at 55.8 percent accuracy with the average winning margin for the Woods being 26.5 points. In the most recent time, the Woods have won six of the last seven matches with the most recent outing being in Round 11 last season when the Barkeroos defeated the Woods by 18 points at KX Pilates Blackwood Oval.

To date in 2022, Mt Barker have made a resurgent climb up the ladder currently sit in equal third place having won five of their opening seven matches by an average of 58.4 points. Across the matches, they are the second ranked attack averaging 93.29 points per match and third in defence conceding 58.4 points. They have kicked at least 11 goals in six of the seven matches with 15 players kicking at least one goal. Returning junior Jordan Houlahan has been the star up forward booting 27 goals (29 percent of total goals) while Sam Callins and Billy Stokes having featured in the better players on five occasions each.
