The Woods are delighted to announce the appointment of Kieran Sporn as the club’s next Men’s A Grade Coach.

Sporn is a familiar face around the club having come to the Woods for his first senior coaching role in 1999 after being a successful player in then VFL competition with Essendon & Fitzroy and SANFL with West Adelaide.

Having finished his playing career, Sporn turned his attention to coaching which bought him to Blackwood to further his skills. He made the Hills Football League Grand Final in his second year at the helm and then chose to pursue his talent at a higher level.

After some years away, which gained him extra experience in coaching in both the Adelaide Footy League and West Adelaide, it has ignited his enthusiasm for him to go around with the Woods again. Along with Kieran’s passion, strong communication and love for the club this will make him a great asset for the Woods.

Woods President David Richardson said the appointment of Sporn marked a significant moment in the path forward for the football club.

“On behalf of the Committee and our entire club, I’m thrilled to confirm to officially announce Kieran as our Men’s A Grade Coach,” Richardson said.

“We – and Kieran – believe success isn’t far away and we’re thrilled to have him lead us into our next chapter as a club.”

Upon accepting the role, Sporn said he was honoured to have the opportunity to coach the club.

“This is an incredibly exciting opportunity,” he said.

“It’s a privilege and an honour to be the next senior coach of the Woods and I take on this role with a great sense of pride and excitement for what’s to come.”

“From the outside looking in, I think everyone can see the undeniable talent on the playing list, which I’m really looking forward to getting to work with. To go with that, there’s a massive, loyal group of hard working volunteers, supporters, sponsors and followers that have stood by this football club for a long time.

“It’s clear the players, volunteers, members and supporters are hungry for success, and we’re going to drive each other to get to where we want to go. I believe in this club and what we can achieve together.”

In further exciting news, Kieran will be supported in the role by Alex Scott and Sam Venning who will be dual Senior Assistant coaches. Scott and Venning bring a wealth of experience having played in over a combined 350 games at SANFL and local level.

Keep an eye out for more exciting announcements shortly.
