Our Women’s side has progressed to the Grand Final defeating Onkaparinga Valley by 10 points in a low scoring battle at Echunga Oval on Sunday afternoon.

The Woods entered the match having suffered two defeats to the Bulldogs across the minor rounds. Looking to lock the game down at the instructions of coach Damien Venning, Blackwood trailed by six points at the first break conceding an early goal. With the match played between the fifties for much of the second quarter the Woods were able to capitalise and kick the only goal of the term courtesy of Scarlett Griffiths in the goal square.

As Blackwood started to get on top around the midfield, they trailed by two points at the final break but brimmed with confidence they could overrun the undefeated Bulldogs. Enter star forward Brie Medder. Held quiet for much of the match often battling multiple defenders anytime the ball came close, Medder was able to show her skill and hit the scoreboard twice giving the Woods the lead for the first time in the match. Playing with confidence, the Woods were able to hold onto the lead and record a famous victory to progress straight through to the Grand Final.

Defender Kelsey Clare was named best player for the Woods for her efforts quelling the attacking forays of the Bulldogs while Miki Collins, Olivia Smith, Scarlett Griffiths, Tamika May also caught the praise of the coaching group being named in the better players.
