The 2023 Hills Football League Division One fixture has been released. The season is only 23 days away!
The Woods commence the 2023 campaign against the Mt Lofty Football Club at Heathfield Oval on Saturday April 1, the first time in seven seasons the Woods have travelled for the opening match of the season and only the fifth time in the past 17 seasons. Across opening round matches, the Woods have a 12 and 5 records and will be looking to hit the ground running in 2023 having suffered opening round losses in the past two seasons.
Following a two week hiatus due to Easter and AFL Gather Round, the Woods will play their first home match of the season at the newly named Wood Tech Oval against the Echunga Demons on April 22. The day will feature a special ANZAC day commemoration.
The season also sees the Blackwood-Ironbank rivalry resume (in the Men’s competition) with the now merged Ironbank-Bridgewater scheduled for Round 5 at Ironbank Oval. Since 2006, the teams have met on 23 occasions with the Woods victorious 16 times including the last five on the trot by an average of 54 points.
